To celebrate the five hundredth anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci (1519-2019), the Gallerie dell’Accademia organize the exhibition “Leonardo da Vinci. Man the model of the world “.
The Venetian museum has twenty-five autograph sheets of the genius of Vinci, drawings that offer an excursus of extreme interest on the production of Leonardo and document, throughout its activity, scientific research with studies of proportion of the human body, botany , optics, physics, mechanics, weapons, and preparatory phases for some paintings such as the studies for the famous Battle of Anghiari or the Sant’Anna with the Virgin and Child.
Among all, the Vitruvian Man excels as a symbol of classical perfection of body and mind, of a human-sized microcosm that is the reflection of the whole cosmos.
The exhibition will trace through the graphic examples of the master, and his students or followers, the essential stages of his existence, starting from two studies for an Adoration of the shepherds referable to the youth period up to the splendid Three female dancing figures attributable to the French period, extreme moment of his life ended in Amboise on May 2, 1519.
A special section will be devoted to the study of proportions and anatomy that will see as the fulcrum the extraordinary Vitruvian Man approached to important sheets of Windsor and to some pages of the Huygens code, exceptionally coming from the Morgan Library of New York.
In a highly suggestive itinerary, the exhibition includes the exhibition of over seventy works, including thirty-five autographs by Leonardo.
